Wedding Music

Wedding music is just as important as what you serve at the reception.  It is like the invisible decoration that makes the event even more romantic that it sometimes border on cliché.

So what are the possible options when it comes to wedding tunes?  These days, there are oodles of choices that you will be surprised at how much time you will need just to look over each and every one of them.

To simplify things a little, here are some helpful tips that would help narrow down the selection for your wedding music:

  • Put your personal taste to play – It is after all your event so the music playing should be something that is at least remotely pleasant to your ears.  However, there are boundaries that should be observed such as no playing of hip-hop music during a very solemn ceremony unless you are going to Vegas and your solemnizing officer is a fellow who impersonates Eminem.  Make sure it’s something tasteful but still very relatable.
  • Live or recorded – Some couples, in the effort to pinch some pennies would opt to just play a CD with all their favorite tunes while others who are bent on having a lavish wedding would prefer to have a live band or perhaps even a string quartet.  It all depends on how much you are willing to spend and the available time that you have to look for a decent group.  Do not forget that the music is not just for the reception.  As the bride walks down the aisle, there has to be some sort of march which is often accompanied by an organ or a piano.
  • Dancing versus swaying – You would want all your guests to have a really great time which means that they should be given the chance to haul out their moves (no matter how rusty and outmoded) during the reception.  Having a string quartet will be really elegant but a swing band will be better for playing more upbeat music.  Either way, just make certain you at least give the group a set list that has all your favorite songs (or at least those that you can willingly admit liking in public).
  • Auditioning bands/musical groups – Never neglect this particular aspect of event planning because you would certainly want the day to be perfect and as lovely sounding as possible.  Ask them to come for a sampling so you can hear them play before hiring.
